Any connection with Alyssa More? Greetings from Ferdynand Mekleberg and his crew.

I was always generous in trades that came to my chars (the ones that trade) because the resources are unlimited. The silk, coal, wood etc. never run out and you can essentially flood the market if you are willing to extract the raws out and trade them. It kind of tilts the cantr concept of an economy when the supply is so high in already extracted materials. So in those cases I throw out the d.o.w. theory and make a trade that both sides feel comfortable with. It sounds like I never got past Adam Smith in my studies!?

I got very wealthy by doing it. Then its gets boring. I think the journey exceeds the destination in most cases.

I have a few characters like this, they either have a ton of things they chanced into but don't need, or live in a place where they have stores of hematite, etc. so they don't mind giving it all away to get that little bit of silk or wheat or something they really really need.

But then I have other characters, who really try to figure out the trade, and I don't really know what I'm doing wrong here, but they either get taken advantage of, or someone gets mad because they're charging too much.

The way I see it is something like steel, would be at the least, if you get hematite at 6000 grams in one day, that's 4 days worth of iron ore right there, 1500 being 1050 (only need 1/4 day of hematite). Out of that 1 day of crushing ore, 1050, you need 700 of it to make 350 grams of iron in one day, and with 2 days worth of iron, 700, you can make either 700 or 963 grams of steel and have iron left over. Through this reasoning I would determine 700 or 963 grams of steel to be worth about 5.25 days of work, and I round down to 5. 700 divided by 5 is like 140, and 963 divided by 5 is 192.

Now this seems reasonable to me. But I've had people who come to trade with characters, with iron or something, and by those calculations the iron would be 350 grams per 3 days, meaning iron is worth about 116 grams per day. Then these people come and say no, we sell iron at 30 or 50 grams a day, something like that. So I figure they don't have a fueled hematite drill. Neither do I but I still trade at fueled rate, I just conserve fuel for other things. With an unfueled drill, you can STILL get 1500 grams of hematite in one day, right? and that's enough for one day of ore 1050, and one day of iron 350. And most places have a drill whether or not its fueled.

I'm guessing my problem is, everyone charges for the coal or gas or propane, and limestone, as well as hematite, ore, and iron themselves. Is this so? I just never thought to actually come on here and ask, I thought, I can figure it out by myself. But obviously I can't =P Or are my calculations just like, waaay off? Am I overthinking it? It just feels like a lot of my characters wind up being overly generous because they can't figure out what will make the other trader happy, and really really need what they have, and let themselves be ripped off for a small amount of much needed fuel or food or something. It's just kinda sad because if I could figure out all this trade rates stuff it wouldn't be that way all the time =\ I mean,I have characters who have old notes about trade rates, and when they tried to use them people were like "what this is ridiculous that's too much" and stuff, so I gave up trying to use other people's references.

It's either that or people can sense that I don't know what I'm doing so their characters lie to mine knowing they'll give in LOL I have no idea...

Jeez sorry for the long rant, my fingers just won't stop... ^ ^"

Oh, on another note, I've always wanted a thief or pirate character, but I'm sooo paranoid, I've never lost a character yet, I have ten, and still yet to lose one, though I've only been playing about a year or so? I'm not sure. But I have some nice characters who still got pretty close to getting run through for no reason, and it makes me wonder if I could even support a thief or pirate character or if I'd screw it up and get it killed LOL otherwise I would try.
