Animal armor
Some animals have armor. Has anyone figured out how it works? I know that armor reduces the damage you do to the animal, and the more wounded the animal is, the less effective the armor is. I don't know anything more than that.

Scarabs? They need a decent weapon and /or strength and hunting skill combination to penetrate the shell. I haven't noticed if it gets easier or harder with damage. I guess it's not a huge factor.

It works as a shield. The effectiveness lowers in line with the damage the animal takes, so it will stop 30% less if the animal is 30% wounded, etc.

Ah, so there are animals out there that would be impossible to kill for primitive characters. Thanks.

I have a char with a pilum who has lots of trouble with an elephant too, expert hunter but still only 8 damage. Other chars have a claymore and do 40 damage still... Guess it depends on lots of things!

Correct for an average character, though the skill&strength of a character has quite some influence too. My worst character with a CRB cannot even damage several types of animals, while another with just a bone club (!) has no trouble taking on a bear.
