Well, Seko, what you're describing isn't true altruism. That's when you do something completely selflessly, like going out of your way for a person just because you realised they needed a hand, or they were having a bad day so you give them a bar of chocolate you intended to eat yourself. That sort of thing.

Also, the greater majority of my characters are 'ordinary', of all those I've ever had. They rarely (if ever) have any sort of aspiration for anything big, but that's probably a reflection of myself. I get a lot of joy out of small things, like seeing a friend or staying late up into the night talking. Sharing little moments with somebody else that nobody else can say they've got except the person you shared it with, and when you both die all trace is gone forever, unless you wrote it down. I find it so special nothing else really seems important. Does that make sense? Is it particularly weird? I can't tell.
