w00t! Cantr filter beaten!

Postby joo » Tue Nov 20, 2007 2:29 pm

At my workplace, there is a filter (WebMarshal) that blocks Cantr (under offensive and dangerous content, as a matter of fact). I've tried about a thousand proxies, but they're all blocked. Fortunately, I found out today that using the url http://cantr.net, as opposed to http://www.cantr.net gets past the filter (this might work for a lot of other sites, because putting no subdomain just gets the www subdomain anyway). The login page is blocked for playing the game, but I can go on the forum :)

If anyone has any ideas for getting past filters to play cantr, post them here.

At Proxysf.com (www.proxysf.com) you can find several proxies which let you encode the urls to the site you're browsing, in ways that will beat most filters.
Unfortunately there are also a few not-so-nice proxies on that list of theirs, so I suggest you use it with Firefox and the SiteAdvisor plug-in.
And now I've got to go punch myself in the happysack for actually promoting a Macaffee plug-in...

Aren't you afraid of losing your job over this?

Any job that lists Cantr as offensive and dangerous is worth losing :p
And any place that relies on WebMarshal to block "offensive and dangerous" content, then fails to block such sites when the urls are simply encoded, is either a company in search of a new IT person, or a company that won't be around too long anymore because they can't cut it against modern-day means lol...

Fortunately for me, I have mastered the art of "Alt-Tab" and hiding the taskbar, so I think I'm okay for the moment.

(btw proxysf was blocked :( )

Well joo if that method works then your company's filter is crap so typing the IP address of any website should work too.
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

Crap! using the IP just goes to the flizzle page. Obviously the server is set to give the cantr page only if cantr.net is in the url.

Maybe it wouldn't be too much trouble to configure the server so the IP also gives the main page...

Try: Tools ---> Internet options ---> Advanced Options ---> Then see if TLS 1.0 (usually the one that prevents cantr website working), SSL 3.0 and SSL 2.0 is ticked.
