MakeBeliever wrote::D Five of my chars are on the list, one with a double obscure spelling or maiden name, but three have been revealed by myself when asked because i'm not too fussed if people know or not, it's a game and the characters wether they be good or baddies are just little fun creations and do not resemble the player in anyway shape or form apart from the players imagination makebelieved into the game.
It's not about how it reflects on the player's personality, but how some players can't separate their dislike for other players from their characters; Some will try to ruin/kill the characters of a player they dislike every time they come across them in the game. It's wrong, but it happens. That's why people don't always like to reveal their characters in a game like this.

Yeah same here. I am not paranoid about people knowing who I play, because if they do try a OOC attack, I will still just RP it like I would any other. I mean it does suck to lose one of your charries, but you have just as much of a chance of them dying one of the other many ways in the game. I am not too worried about it, and if someone plays a CRB or OOC attack, then that is their loss because they are not enjoying the game like you do when you play it the right way.

So basically you're saying it's fine if people don't play the game properly and it's perfectly ok to kill a char for ooc reasons.
I really don't think a player lame enough to kill for ooc reasons is going to feel at all ashamed that he's not playing the game properly.

You say that Elros, as if you've ever been in a situation where there was someone who attacked you for ooc reasons. (I don't know that you have/havent, maybe you have,) but I for one, think its one of the most terrible situaions in the game. Especially when that player decided to start stalking every single one of your characters. I've seeen it happen to people, I've had it done when I very first started playing the game, and it makes for some really awful times because sometimes there's little proof that a person's really after your character because it's you. It's really easy to make it look like your character has every reason in the world to do what it's doing to another persons. Harder to prove that it has no reason at all.
Let me forewarn you that people that like togo out and tell their characters to friends and then have discussions with their friends about IC events? But then something goes down wrong/bad? PD only helps the person so long before they tell them, "Quit telling your characters to people." Because PD does not have time to solve drama issues between players who don't have the sense to protect themselves when they're forewarned ahead of time---It can make for really bad situations to tell your chars to people. Especially to those that redundantly come to the PD complaining someone did such and such to their character and don't ever seem to learn their lesson about telling people who their chars are.

I never said that I don't mind people playing OOC, I just said that I wasn't going to let that fear keep me from discussing some of my characters with others on the forums. I hate when people cheat, whether it be to me or anyone else. I never said that I didn't have a problem with it. The only point I was making is that I enjoy talking about some of my characters with others, and that I wasn't going to let the fear of someone cheating shy me away from discussing who I play form time to time.

Well said Elros. When people start looking over their shoulder wondering was this and that action aimed against me and not just my character, you can't really enjoy the game anymore. I'd like to think that most people play fair and are nice. Can't say all of them but a great majority.

I discuss some of my chars with some people I trust. I don't really overanalyze what characters do in a game towards mine. I don't really have a reason to. I just don't discuss mine on the forums because anyone and their dog can get ahold of that information rather than just the few I trust or the few I feel like it doesn't matter if they know. Now, discussing events on the forum, I'll do some, but I try to be careful about any revealing information. If someone asks, and I play the character, I usually will tell the truth, but only in private. Most of my characters wouldn't even matter if people knew them and wanted to kill them because they know I play them. I'm half trying to kill some anyway.
I'm going to split those posts from this thread.

I haven't tried hard to keep my chars secret, but it is better to do so.
As stated above if you don't like a player, it's very difficult not to let that knowledge influence you a bit, if only, as stated in another thread, if you know that player gets through chars at a high rate, you won't want yours to try to form a long term relationship with one of his/hers.

I revealed one of my characters once, and I didn't have any negative feed back for it. The character I had was fighting to his wits end with another character, but as players, we got along fine. I'd have to agree its only the people with their head up their asses that make the game shoddy. Hence why I don't reveal it in a forum post, just a PM. Saves me the trouble, and if I do end up getting a unexplainable stalker, I have a short list of suspects
Then, at the same time, my characters, on average, are very ordinary. Captured pirate, heart broken lover, pissed off villager, and of course the lost and lonely sailor
I'm also not very active on the forum... but thats off topic.
I think, that if someone does end up stalking your character for no reason, it should be considered as pure cheating. Its using out of game knowledge to get someone back for an out of game grudge. Its too much out of game stuff for it to just be over looked as, "Ohh well, just another disgruntled player." I'd hate for ALL of my characters to get hunted down because I ticked off one person on the forum and I was open about who I played.
