Wow. Just...wow. I can't believe we're nitpicking over people's spelling abilities. I'm about as anal as it gets when it comes to my own spelling and sometimes grammar, but I've learned that life on the internet is far less stressful if you don't obsess over spelling errors and typos. Not everyone has the aptitude or interest for writing.

It can be helpful to point out mistakes (in a tactful way), but I generally don't unless asked. As mentioned, everyone makes mistakes and often you're encountering someone who is juggling multiple languages. I'm not fluent in any other language, so I'd really feel like an ass if I made a huge issue out of someone making an error in the 3rd or 4th language with which they manage to communicate.

well actually, this is my first languadge, (my homelanguadge, you know. the one I learned when I was a toddler, that one)

And I think that microsoft word is good enough for the forum. Of course sometimes I don't use a a spell-check thing for myself, but meh, I get by.

But a spelling thing for the IRC chat would be cool.

Out of curiousity Pie, have you ever had a dyslexia test? Because if you are dyslexic, as I much suspect you are, knowing about it will help a bomb when you come to finally do your exams (You'll get extra time at the ends to check spelling and the choice to use a laptop to do them etc.)

English spelling is a ******* nightmare.

Ambiguity everywhere!!!!!

The only way to know how a spoken word is spelled, or how a written word is spoken, is to memorize. Almost word by word.

Do you know how much neurons you require to store all that (unnecessary) knowledge in your brain? I dunno, but sure that alot. And the time to learn it... pffffff.

In Spanish, when you read (or listen) a new word, the 99% of the times you know automatically how to pronunce it (or write it).
When I have studied some German and French, the same (maybe German ortography is harder than the French and Spanish, but far away from English ambiguity)

When I was child, and I saw spelling contests in movies from USA (translated to Spanish, of course), I was totally confused. So I though that those childs were all stupid. Now I know that the English language (extreme) ambiguity is the guilty.

And the worst of all this: A person form London hardly understand someone from the Midlands... no way with someone from Lousiana (for example).
On the other hand, a spanish (from Spain) guy can at ease understand someone from Mexico or Argentina. The only problems are the idioms, but hardly the pronunciation.

I hopefully don´t make any mispellings (or is it misspelling).
But I have problems with grammary but I hope that I will learn more English when I write to this forum. (please correct my mistakes in this text if there is any of them)
But I think that people understand me.
It is very hard for me to understand a word if writer have mispelled it.
