I have seen currency starting to work in game, but I ran out of nickels...

Just read Soc's thread...

All I can say is don't force things. When currency is needed, the game will support it... the game is simply not ready. Just like the idea of communism and the Marxist dialectic- its a great idea, but you can't force the natural development without a bastardised version which is a poor reflection on the theory.

Coins can be falsified, isn't it?

Just making another press with the same name than the official coinage. And then its value would drop to... err... ten kilos of coins for one bone knife, or so.

Maybe if the press had a serial number, like keys...

The names of coin presses and therefore the inscriptions on coins are unique and cannot be forged - Coins with a particular inscription can only be made by one coin press.

But you can always make almost the same name and sell them to someone dumb  It works.

But if you call the forge the 'Cantr Coin' , can't anyone come along and make another called the 'Cantr Coin' and therefore just getting free coins?

No. I believe that for seals and coin presses, once a name is taken, no other can have the same name. Now you might be able to add an extra space, flip vowls, or any number of other things that make the forgery resemble the original.

Currently, seals can be falsified. It's so easy they aren't useful for anything.

I said seals, not sealing an envelope. A seal is a special tool that can be used (with sealing wax) to make a unique seal that cannot be falsified.

When creating the coin the KaTeR, i didn't know it could not be falsefied. that's why i put in the capitals, to make it harder for someone to forge it (they could forget the capitals).

The KaTeRs works in a way. People sometimes trade with it, but mostly it does not really circulate more then 1 or 2 hands before being handed back in for resources at our company.

The main reason is that there is just not enough trade, continuity and communication between characters and different area's. Sure sometimes someone shows up and starts a small trading buissness. But usually it doesnt last long and things get forgotten again.

I am absolutly sure the coinage can work as it is right now. But it will only work when there is a more structured and continues society. When there is a demand for coinage it works.

What needs to change is not the way coins are implemented, but the general appeal of cantr to hook players for a longer time, give them goals and stimulate more activity. As i see it the gameplay value of cantr needs to improve before more players and activity can be expected.

*cough*readmybuildingrotandkeepwarfaresuggestion*cough*

Anyway ;)..... I agree, we need more players for many of the things that are potentially great about cantr to become reality *cough*likemyidea*cough*

coins should be a lot easier to make. i've seen a little coin press on a fair, where you put a little round piece of metal in it, hit it with a hammer and a coin is done. one man could make a hundred of those in one day, not to mention the moderns coin presses.

i also wanted to comment on the weight of a coin. it should be lighter. in my country the largest coin is 10 grams and it is really a big one. in Cantr it should be like 1g
