I've got a character who is ALONE, baby. Literally in the middle of nowhere. He didn't start out there, but that's where he's staying. Hasn't seen another person in five years, wouldn't be surprised if he never saw anybody again.
I figure at the rate he's going, it will take him about 80 years to make himself a decent weapon for hunting. And that's IF he can even find all the necessary resources within striking distance, which he hasn't yet.
He is... a society of one. He likes it.
starting out in an unpopulated location

I have that musical album, the original... heh... had it all my life.
Well, it used to belong to my parents but they never played it, didn't care for it... so back in the early 1980's I claimed it, didn't get to play it that much because my player was wrecked by my older brother, and the player in the livingroom was off-limits to us kids.
And that guy had a point... heck, they had relative luxurious lives down there.
In fact, if Cantr ever enables tunnelling... oh boy, call me Digger McDig!
I have one char in a place that's about to become a society of one, the only other guy there is basically begging the animals to finish him off for whatever reason.
No healingfoods present, no food and lots of animals (including those blasted bears) but thanks to that guy I now have an iron shield and some tools/weapons that at least put a nice dent in bears.
But there's hematite, stone and wood, it has some open buildings, and it's not too far from a place where I can gather limestone.
There's already facilities to make charcoal, and smokers, so I'm sticking around that place.
Well, it's not really abandoned, lots of people come through there but no-one ever stays longer than a day for some reason (likely being: violent bears and wolves, no raw foods or healingfoods, larger more settled places being within a few towns down the roads)
And yeah, I've had a few chars scout for abandoned places, up to now the only successful ones died either from starvation or from wild animals having them for breakfast.
