Do you think Cantr is educational?

Postby Lone Wolf » Thu Mar 25, 2004 11:00 pm

I think it is. You are incouraged to build a society and live in that society. You have to explore and find resources in order to gain items like swords and shields. I think it is very educational on an economic level.

Along with the Math and English and Speech skills involved, it is playable as "a character and so once in a while take a step back and observe what kind of societies you see forming, which can be very educational."

It improves many things like:

conceptual thinking
human relations
typing
reading
math
economics
political debates
how geography effects not only enconomy but the population and the politics
html (if you learn how to really make notes)
eta eta

more things then I wish to list

As much as my family and girlfriend try to convince me it's a pointless waste of time, I actually learned how to interact with people by playing Cantr. Before that, I would speak with grunts and evil-eyes. I still do most of the time but I have an alternative for when I want to manipulate people :D

it definately improves speech... it's not just the regular abbreviations, like u and nm and lol...i think people who do use abbreviations like that kind of disrupt the flow of the game, as they could role play to show their feelings and thoughts, not just abbreviate

I was fixing my friend's computer problems, and she came over to play Mario Golf or whatnot, and I greeted her with a tacklehug. :P And she was frightened for about 10 minutes XD And the rest is history :D

Cantr is most definately educational.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. It is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Only I will remain.

Hmmm, it was just a gut feeling but i guess i could expain why. First of all, this is a game, not some educational program, this is for fun. My math has not improve one bit, mostly because i'm good enough at math so that i can do these simple plus and minus equations. English, hasn't improved a much, the most i have done was look up a word that doesn't exists, because some guy messed up with the word. Improving my speech....nope, i got funny things to say to some people, thats a plus....it kinda made my typing better, but thats also ture of me IMing a friend

Well, I learned how to manipulate people. :D

Anyway, any player who has a character that is a leader learned a thing or 2. Main rule: don't trust people.
Same goes for RL.
