In-Game Religions

Religion would be an interesting addition to Cantr. I'm not talking about official game mechanics but a purely roleplaying element. Faith has played a major role in most societies.

There are religious texts and temples in Olipfirovash, and a group outside Pok, but I'm surprised there aren't more...

So here's a question: If a wandering preacher came into town, would you listen to him?

A nomadic tribe or monastery of zealots would be quite fun, I think. Crusades and inquisitions, even.

Actually there have been several small "churches" started, none have had many followers however.

ALthough I haven't ever started one of my own in game..I've seen quite a few of the religions. From my view they look hard to keep going. Its hard to keep people interested in it. But ....I have some plans in store for some chars. Eeeee and I can't wait. lol

I think there was a guy like that in Tircqi spreading 'Fordism.' Not many people listened to him.

But like you said, religion is the basis for countless cultures. And like someone else said, we tend to put our own beliefs in Cantr. If we're not real-life priests, we're not likely to preach in-game.

Brunoi is a town where religion has much influence, not in the politics, but in the every day life.

They are building a church somewhere around Brunoi.

There are also a lot of minor sects around, often quite bizzare.

I wrote the Book of Zobor, but it never took. I think I might try again. Create a wandering sect, maybe build a temple.

Why not? Theocracy is fun.

One possible reason it never took was because it conflicted with beliefs already established in that region. The gods are supposed to have no names.

I founded one of the original churches. To this date (about 280 days) I have had 3 people join it. Churches are hard to get a following in

A new kind of "religion" may arise somewhere soon. Similar to Buddishm in it's relation to "true" religion.

I think that although religion doesn't take off during the person who started its lifetime, it does slowly become part of culture, and spread that way a bit. I think.

Several of my characters have tried religions...one of them, claimed he was a prophet, said huge prophecys about people and places...then starved to death in the desert...only one person ever listened...

There are also the Gods of Quill. Lakeside, they have a influence on the town there.

Yeah, it took the Third Romulus to get it their Gods to become an active role in their lifestyle. I would say 15-20 cantr years, possibly more.

but isn't that Third Romulus the only guy there? and from what I know he made those gods up when Kris Suiflos wanted to build a temple to Jos in Lakeside....

This is very interesting and I think religion would be fun in Cantr.
For a real religion to stick though Jos and some of the other
administrater's would have to create some god like events in the
world that people could actually witness and interpret in different
ways.
This seems rather difficult without effecting Cantr in a major way,
allthough a major god like event would have that effect you would think.

I hope you guys can find a way to do this,I think it would very interesting
and religion does have a major role in society and how it developes.

But I do beleive it has to be a real event for people to stay interested,
an event that effects everyone in some way and they can choose how
beleive what happened.
