deleting location name = Bad
I deleted a location name, thinking that it would default back to unnamed location. Not good. It killed the dynamic naming. Now all I have is a "." I can't change. I'm assuming that this is a side-effect of the recent change in URL that I posted about in another support thread.

Okay, I see the problem. Because it's normally the name itself that you click on to bring up the page to change the location name, if you blank out that space, there is nothing to click on.
Here's a workaround. Note down the type of terrain (grassland, forest, etc). Then view the page source (CTRL-U on Firefox) and search for that word (grassland, forest, etc.). If you look right before the place where it says the terrain type, there should be something like
<A HREF="index.php?dt=cz02NDQ5ODE4NjAmcGFnZT1uYW1lbG9jJmNoYXJhY3Rlcj0yMTg5MjMmaWQ9MTMx"></A>
Take the partial URL between the quotes and paste it over the corresponding part of the URL in the location bar, so that you get something like
http://www.cantr.net/index.php?dt=cz02N ... MmaWQ9MTMx
That should do the trick.

i had the same problem, but with a buiding, so i entered to the building in question, and pushed ctrl u and looked up for "edificio/habitacion" (room/building) instead of "grassland" and copy the text and pasted in the location bar.
AND IT WORKED!!
thanks to all the people i have bothered because of this problem

Re: deleting location name = Bad
I just figured out how come they come out as reading <CANTR_CHARDESC> in the database even though no one writes that in. It's because it's the default description that it enters if the name is blank, and it's not taking into account that it doesn't work with locations. I should be able to fix it.

Thank you!
I did this to a ship accidentally. Would have been rather awkward to have to get a sign tool just to give it a name again.

Re: deleting location name = Bad
I just committed a change that will stop this from happening once Echoman puts it live. After the new version is up, deleting the dynamic name will make it display the default name like people have been expecting it would. But don't test it yet.
Also, there are 4198 entries in the database where the namer is 0 and 247 where the target is 0, so I was wondering if those should all be deleted, since no one can see the text under normal circumstances.

Edit: I have uploaded the script live. It works for vehicles and buildings. Locations will revert to "unnamed location" if the name is blanked out, people to " a [wo]man in his/her twenties".

No, it just deletes the old naming information, so it will display unnamed location for outside locations and the name of the building/vehicle if it's a building/vehicle.

I would assume she meant default meaning <unknown location> or the name of the building/vehicle/ship.
