Writing Utencils! [RP item]
I know we have the paintbrush, but I don't think that really counts as a writing utencil. I would like to see pens, pencils, writing quills, etc. for roleplay purposes. One of my characters use a feather to feign writing and stuff, but I wish there was something that was more... visible, I guess? Something that would show up in the "this character is holding" spot :P
Also, we could make it so that the only way you can create/edit notes is by having a writing utencil. I know this idea sounds really bad - I'm actually against the idea myself! But I just wanted to throw that in there to see what other people think about it.

Re: Writing Utencils!
More gadgets to make and play, rp and trade with are always welcome by me. I love variety. Although these writing utensils would have very limited use, their main use being that which is already possible with nothing, they'd be quite small, quick and easy to make.
I'm sure they'd most likely come standard with the crumbling stone hammer and dirty, reused loin cloth peeled straight from a cantrian corpse newspawn starter kit.
A fun little extra, with obvious purpose. I'm a fan, and I'm all for it. It'd hopefully be easy enough for cantrians to spend just a few hours making one. I'm interested to see what material combinations people produce.
I'm imagining a feather and a trace of oil (for a quill) or a piece of wood and a trace of iron ore (for a pencil).

3431-5.19: You novicely kill a badger using a bare fist.
4037-4.03: You expertly kill an elephant using a crumbling bone spear.

Re: Writing Utencils!
I love this, I've been thinking about this myself for a long time.
Please, add fountain pens!
I'm against making it required to write notes, though. I have some characters that, given the right circumstances, could write dipping a twig in their own blood.

Hmm...
Pencil:
10 grams wood
2 grams coal or something
Pen:
10 grams iron/steel
2 grams oil
Writing Quill:
5 grams feathers
er... I dunno, there could be another thing for an inkwell, and that could contain oil or whatever?

Re: Writing Utencils!
Charcoal for the pencil, ink could be made from herbs maybe, cooking them down? Oil would just smear, not dry..

Re: Writing Utencils!
Perhaps a special font could be supported if a character had a real writing implement.

Oh, that sounds neat! What would the fonts be, though?

Re: Writing Utencils!
Something specially supported in Cantr. I think you can upload font packages into a style sheet, right? But then, you'd have to do it for every supported language...forget that idea.

Re: Writing Utencils!
I love this idea, and want all those items, but....unless it does allow a different font, I wouldn't worry too much about the ink making. Just keep it simple, and please, don't require a kiln, or at least have some that don't require fancy tools, and other more sophisticated ones that do.

I have a char who would love to own a fountain pen
Not sure about 'needing' something to create notes, as this would also prohibit copying them too?

Yes!
However, definitely a no to needing utensils for being able to make a note, and to the use of advanced machines for the simpler utensils.

Re: Writing Utencils!
maybe just "shape" coal on a stone table, using a knife or equivalent, for the core of a wood pencil?
maybe just inlay that core in a wood stick using a knife, at cost of more time.
but, this other are more complex, no?
maybe a ink bottle can be made of other materials, no just glass
or the quill can be made without a ink bottle, just needing a small amount of feather and a knife.
i don't know

Re: Writing Utencils!
If we were having writing utensils, I'd like them to have some actual functionality without necessarily having to have them for notes. What would you say to writing utensils each allow people to use a different font on notes. A quill would have smaller, precise markings, while a paintbrush would have thicker strokes.
A quill would allow you to write in fonts like French Script MT on Microsoft word while the paintbrush would be something more like Aharoni. Pencils would be a sort of in between.
Edit: sorry, missed the idea stated earlier on.
