I guess this knowledge could come in useful later, but right now it's just to feed my curiosity :D

I voted for Mandarin since that is the one I am studying now, though that is a liberal use of the word speak. :D

Wichita, come to Asia for a few weeks and you'll be able to speak it no problem!! :)

(just have to find a major seminar to participate in, right? :) )

:lol: Hopefully I would pick it up easier than I have absorbed Finnish up here for two months. But no offence, Chinese is much much easier to study than Finnish. I love the straightforward grammar and the flow of thought in word order.

And let's hear a hooray for not having to conjugate verbs!! :D With Finnish I have been having to learn how to conjugate the verb, noun, adjective, AND adverbs in a sentence, and make sure the cases of each compliment each other so that it says exactly what I need it to say. Tiresome... :lol:

I always wonder why people say Chinese is so hard to learn? Perhaps they are refering to the written form? But the grammar itself and structures are much easier, I think... :)

Translating Cantonese to Manderin is easy...But I don't know which tone to use...since Manderin has four, but Cantonese has 9 tones. I think.

Kinda Like

Daw=Duo
Aw=uo
On=an
Cheen=Qian

Yea, I think it's easier to learn to speak than it is to read and write, unless you learn it from an earlier age. Now with the pinyin, it's alot easier to learn to speak/understand, and with online translators and dictionaries, you can write it as well using the pinyin.
