Cantr Webzine

Postby *Wiro » Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:56 pm

There used to be a Cantr Webzine, Stolen Notes. What happened to that and are the old issues with the comics and stories archived somewhere?

I was wondering about the webzine a few days ago, actually. I haven't been around long enough to have read it. Why did it stop?

People stopped contributing and later something happened that made it unreadable.

I certainly think an attempt should be made to revive it .... (I mean, it would be a good idea to make the old versions available again, but more importantly, it should be brought back to life.)

The old version used some software called e107 ... It would probably be a good idea to do something more home-baked in future, since e107 is a bit ugly and quite different from all other things used around Cantr.

If the webzine was brought back, I would definitely help revive it :)

I would like to see it up and running, so if I can contribute somehow, I'd like to.

Wayback Machine archived some very limited pages, though if possible it would be amazing if all the issues (it goes back a couple of years) could be found and uploaded somewhere.

It's easy to say you'll contribute but I remember when the Webzine was running lots of people wanted to contribute but only half of them eventually met their deadlines. I'm all for it, but hopefully this time without deadlines or quarterly issues. I searched and found an old topic I posted in back then, a discussion on turning Stolen Notes into a blog. I certainly like that idea, so there's fun stories, comics and poems all year round.

From a ProgD point of view the webzine haven't been prioritized very high. There have been other things with higher importance. I'll see what we can do about it. And e107... the security holes were like black holes on that one. We will find a better tool for it... :)

The database used for the webzine is still intact, so we should be able to revive all content.

Is there any free blogging programs we could use? Heck, we could even use the forum if we wanted.

I think using the forum is an excellent idea :)

No need to make it fancy. Even a free blog website works. Cantr's still an indie game, isn't it? We're allowed to be cheap.

KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid

Think this rule applies pretty much
You can see the difference between professional work and rookie stuff, by how well it is done after all.
No need to add complicated and expensive things, unless we got a firm standing.

For Cantr this means. Continue your awesome work. We are Free2Play forever!

If we did use the forum, how would we like to set it up? We'd need a new forum section, obviously, but would it be free for anyone to post?
