Highlights / color coded text

Postby Cathy Willey » Thu Jul 24, 2003 4:04 pm

It might make survival in "noisy" areas easier, at least from a mental standpoint, if actions specifically directed at you (e.g. ...gives you, ...says to you, ...hits you) were, say, yellow, or were defined with CSS classes so that a custom set of highlights could be defined in a personal style sheet.

That is a great idea...then you don't have to scroll thru everything so carefully if your character is only interested in things said directly to him.

I hade to go thru a few days of torture when the people of Brunoi voted for mayor...my character wasn't interested in politics at all, but she was still a pretty known character and thus I had to read a lot of uninteresting stuff

I like this idea, perhaps extend it so it higlights actions relating to other people, or objects, so you can watch over them easily?

I also like this idea, in some active areas of the game it can be somewhat confusing trying to sort out what is relavant to your char and what isn't.

They're white now... Maybe choose another colour. One that catches the eye. Or choose two colours, one for personal actions and another for everthing else. But they'd have to clash...

We did it already with Polish messages, and we turned them just to bold and it work very well when I have chars in busy Polish town ;) And bold works pretty good. Somethink like that:

1344-4: man in his twenties says to you: "Hello man"

1344-3: man in his twenties gives you a Note -a letter from me to you-.

etc...

And I really miss those bold messages when playing Engish char. So can I add those bold codes? Bold works pretty good, no need for colors. And someone likes one color someone other one color, so they should be customizable like Grzegorz wants to do this. But making imoprtant events as bold is good temporary solution.

Even the "bold" solution is quite better..

No one in English Zone cares about having messages in bold?

I'm for it too. It'd really help for those days when I just glance over the character page to make sure nobody is talking to me.

Sorry KeVes , it is not as straight forward as you are proposing.
I'm aware that this has been done for the Polish translation of events but the particular implementation is a move away from the current ProgD development philopsphy , where formating is controlled by style sheets and not by in-line code.

It is also much more difficult to maintain and make changes.

Regardless of whether it is straightforward or not, I think this would be a good thing to implement... I don't care how it's done, but we should be able to easily filter out those events that pertain to our character.

Any chance that, for us who use sound, that these messages could also be prefixed by, say, *** so a search could find them. What's that got to do with sound? Nothing as such, but believe me, it'd help a lot.
