I think he meant 500 grams extra above the normal 300. So 800 a day.
Don't think so.
He wrote TO 500 grams, not BY 500 grams.

Yes but I read it as to as in an Axe doing 300 extra so increasing it to 500 with a saw.

I meant 500, not 500 extra, but to be sure I would need to look into numbers.

Well wouldn't a saw be more efficient than an axe?

The axe is a bit more expensive, and You can attack with it. It also weights more.

I guess saw shouldn't be much worse, otherwise nobody will make it. It is very light so it's a good alternative for axe.

What about making it the same? 600 grams?

A saw seems more suitable to remove small branches and process wood than fell a tree by itself, so I say an axe would be better.

We could of course use a saw to make wood from timber.

Don't all timber locations have wood anyway? It'll either make woo pointless at that place (if it made more wood per day) or be pointless (if it made less wood)

How about we make it a semi-finished part? Then shove an helicopter engine in it (*shrugs* might as well finally get some use out of it) and call it a chain saw!

No, not all timber locations have wood, although wood usually isn't very far. Anyway, the point would be to have two different qualities of wood sources, one slow and common, the other faster and rarer, to introduce a kind of regional disparity in the wood sector.

I would love to see a chainsaw, but there's currently no way to make a portable machine consume fuel.

You're right, the problem is not actually the fuel, but recognizing if wood is present. The result is the same though.
