My main problem with it is now that deadspawns will now be someone's child and they may be commonly forced to RP all the grief around it, etc.

Some players may decide to deadspawn a char if they don't like the parents that they got.

Do we know what percentage of deadspawns we currently have? Because I would expect a similar percentage of "children" to be effectively stillborn in this case.

I'm not completely opposed to the idea, though I would still like to maintain the regular spawning mechanism. This was one of the things that made me give up on FTO in about 5 minutes of playing, besides the impossible UI. Goo goo, gaa gaa doesn't really do it for me.

If taking all characters into account, there are 128037 characters with lastdate the same as spawndate (excluding ones spawned today) and 135959 with lastdate bigger than spawndate. That means 48.5% of characters were only checked on their day of spawning or not checked at all. Still, if being born to parents involved an active choice and a short waiting period, all the impatient people would likely choose regular spawning.

If limiting to the last rl year, the numbers are 3909 and 8950 respectively, so nowadays only 25.9 % go inactive from the start.

Seeing how 'well' the system worked in FTO I'm not really enthusiastic about this. I wouldn't mind it as an option, but I see a lot of problems that would have to be solved, many of them associated with having people of less than 20 years in the game (with developing bodies), but also quite a lot concerning the "logistics". (Would you have to press a "have sex" button? Would you become pregnant? Would players of newborn have to wait during pregnancy? Could you be born to one of your own characters? etc.)

Maybe you could only choose to be or have a baby if you'd been playing longer than 6 months? Still doesn't solve the problem of babies being stillborn just because its player doesn't like the parents. Overall, I really like the idea, I just think that an awful lot of qualifiers would need to be thrown in before it worked properly, and I know I'm getting my hopes up just thinking about it for as long as I've been. It would really be awesome to be able to build a huge clan over time out of just two or three couples deciding to live together.

I'll go on record as being adamantly against characters under 20 years of age. I will fight any such suggestion with every ounce of my strength.

I don't want to spoil other people's fun with that, but I know that -I- don't ever want to play an under-20 something, and I would strongly prefer to not be around them either. I only recalled one "childlike" character that I particularly liked.

It would be nice to have the epicness of royal lineages in stuff, but that I envision it actually doing something else entirely, which I will find far less than appealing. It could even be bad for towns when people hand down leadership to the next of kin rather than the person best suited for the task.

While I have been able to see that families and birth can work decently in a similar game system (FTO), I am and always have been against implementing some sort of birth system in Cantr. It is a large change that would be very difficult to pull off, and just doesn't quite seem "Cantr" to me. At least, that is how I feel now. I had many other reasons back when this topic was newer, and I didn't have any experience with any sort of system for it.

Against. If you want to play a childlike char, as RedQueen said, you don't need the label saying that you are a child...

Rejecting the original suggestion. Who knows what was discussed in-between.

I think you shouldn't look on this by a bad example of other game where you hadn't any influence on how it was implemented. I say more. You are wiser because of that and i ask you for more feedback as players who knows how it for sure should not look like :)

Well in my opinion in cities of cantr there are happening things much more disturbing. Murders, degenerated units, everything like in real life. And it's an obligation of players to keep order and keep from breaking these borders of propriety.

Returning to topic
Parents decision-making option naturally can't be vulgar or unapropriate. We have other neutral like establish family or just give a shot ;)

I want it optional (i mean not default ) and option would be only for some players who play longer. I don't see any reason to think that someone would intentionally abuse it.
I honestly don't understand how someone could deadspawn a char? He would need to erase all his account and other chars right? Jokes are possible now too, we can't assume worst scenarios. Or maybe you talk about attacking his parents? But even if there is an option to limit attacks in first days of life of char. Parents don't choose son or dather too. So it's their risk and risk of player who decides to have borned spawn. More, you can limit this option for players which wrote that they are younger than 18 at time of creating char in their account data.

I don't really want to RP being a baby or kid. My goal is to expand variety of social processes availible for chars, humanize a bit communities and let players try something else.

Vega wrote:Against. If you want to play a childlike char, as RedQueen said, you don't need the label saying that you are a child...

If you want to play role of kid no. If you want to play role of son/daughter it's hard try yourself. I get your point but you can spawn everywhere now. If you want to play a son or daughter it will be always naturalised one and you need sometimes to look for it long. There is natural border of not knowing anything by chars about being a child in cantr. I mean having family is not natural at all in world od cantr yet. And i never said a world about limiting current mechanism of spawning for other default chars.

In RL you don't choose parents, you have them from beggining and you decide what to do with it later. Now in Cantr you are born without parents, you step into something what was planned by other chars earlier and you aren't always welcomed there.

Piscator, good question and main rule is in power. It shouldn't be possible that parent char would be connected with teh same player new char. To spawnborn his char he will wait for pair of chars of different players.

That's the only way. And yes i would like to see that too :)

I can live with that but it not murders the idea right? ;)

I saw one kid char, it was played very well. It was fun to see something such exeptional like this in Cantr. Other time in front of one of my older chars appeared young woman char who wanted my char to be her father. He agreed and it was cool RP then, very different from usual.

Royal lineages rocks. I'm a Monarchist in RL and monarchies can be good or bad but democracies in most cases are corrupted. So mostly leader decides who will be his succesor and he earlier prepairs his succesor for years. When most people decides there starts politics... and decission often divide comunity, when it is bad decission you can't find the one responsible.

Which part. We have here 2 different parts. You mean whole idea or being baby/kid part?

Just so Zlotnik doesn't think everyone is against it, I'll say, as I have said before, that I am FOR this option, in whatever way it might be implemented. Playing under-20s can be very liberating, for players who want that option, and gives them an actual history, not just a *poof, you are here*.
