You can see a lighthous across an island if you are on the other side of that island and the lighthous is on the other side. But only if you are in a boat. I suggest that lightshouses also should be seen from land.
Across a bay you normally can see the other side if it is narrow. Lighthouses you see easily. Why not in Cantr?

I would say, there is already too many lighthouses around (I am reffering to polish islands). When You see 6 lights from your ship you get really confused. I don't want this to expand.

I think it should be suggested the use of some instruments to find out one's latitude, as the Astrolabe:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrolabe
Or the more modern Sextant:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sextant
If such kind of tools are going to be accepted (I don't know if there is a latitude in the World of Cantr (*)), I'll gladly suggest the resources and tools needed for that tools.
(*) Anyhow, the cantrian astrolabe could determine the X pixel, and the cantrian more expensive sextant could determine both coordinates X and Y.

determining local time given local longitude and vice-versa; surveying; and triangulation

Lighthouses are often not visible from land ... I think some differences between land and sea navigation are nice. And it would also get a bit messy, imho.
Anyway, perhaps I don't have very strong arguments - I just don't like the idea, really ... Mostly because usually there are trees / hills / mountains / buildings in between you and lighthouses.
From where I'm sitting here (Cambridge, MA), I'm pretty close to the coast, yet I see no lighthouses ...
