Reorganizing projects list for machines

Postby Greek » Mon Mar 25, 2013 7:37 pm

Some machines are clogged by long list of possible projects. It happens usually for food processing. Something must be done, as we want to add even more recipes.
It's fairly easy to distinguish project outputs and pretty hard to do it for inputs.
And it's quite impossible to, in example, allow different fuels for the same project. So any realistic suggestion can touch only the game interface.
Instead of current dropdown list with more-or-less random order I suggest to create list with radio buttons grouped by output material. Best would be something like ajax build menu, but I don't know how to do it. Simple static list would still be better than current interface.

How it could look like:

I think that would be easier, I would love to see it!

I like the look of that one much better, right now it's a real pain scrolling around looking to cook something with a specific fuel type.

I think that the resulting product names can be even more enhanced, maybe a different background color or something. But overall a very good idea.

If its not much work to do it then yes from me. If you have to work a lot to make it happen then i think some other suggestions would give greater benefit to game.

I changed my vote to "no opinion". It works as it is too, I tend to search all my projects anyway :)

I love this, especially if it would allow for many more recipes to be possible, and if list is in alphabetical order to make it easy to find what you want.

If there are more than X options for a machine it could be expandable/collapsable. Here is my not-as-good-as-GreeK's drawing of it.

Code: Select all

EGGS v
MEAT ^
  ¤ Cooking meat (wood)
  ¤ Cooking meat (dung)
  ¤ Grilling meat
  ¤ Wooking meat
PANCAKES v

Well, grilling meat and cooking meat give different resource output, so it would require custom categories.

Implemented.

If there's only a single project for specific output then it goes to group "other" on the bottom.

Thank you Greek! I noticed this today and it's so much nicer already!
When you're falling off a cliff you might as well try to fly.
