Docking events
Apparently you get no message in town when a ship docks to a harbor or landing stage in town. Possibly you don't get it inside the harbor or landing stage either. I suggest this be changed so that docking always create an event.
Edit: I changed this into a poll. Please continue to discuss pros and cons though.

Re: Docking events
Well, most good sailors know that you can sneak up on a town in a fast ship by getting close enough to dock instantly. I'm on the fence with this one.

Re: Docking events
You do get an event if your character is inside the harbor, but if your character is inside the harbor, on a ship there is no event for that nor is an event for docking ships in site if your character is inside the harbor.

Re: Docking events
I made a poll out of this. Hopefully we won't get a lot of +1 or -1 posts.

Re: Docking events
I support this. Why can we not see the ships docking to a harbour if you're in town? What is the material difference here?
As for sneak docks, take a look at my latest post in the dead character thread to see how I feel about it.

Re: Docking events
It's a roleplaying game and not a kill-as-many-characters-as-possible-in-one-minute game. Successful pirates are usually played by players who (knowingly) are active at the same time. Even if a docking event is created they still have this advantage.

Re: Docking events
Tell it to those pirates, Ronja. The ones I encountered do not seem to understand that (3 of mine were killed with not so much as a single word).
Yes, I agree that they still have that advantage but people may then stand some chance to be prepared or flee. I still cannot see why this suggestion should not be accepted.

Re: Docking events
Problem with pirates sneaking into harbour? Harbours are lockable!
Killing characters is a part of cantr too. Get used to it.
It's bad to limit options for characters.
Harbours are part of location but in the same time are a different place the same as buildings. You don't see events in building than why you can see what happens in a harbour?
Harbour is a semi-location where you can build building, machines where you can dock and sometimes are used as independent part of town.
Having two harbours in location let characters undock from one and dock to another without knowledge of characters outside harbours.
This feature of cantr will be lost now. Thank you very much!

Fruitful discussion with U.
When good features are changing into worse or when we loose variety of options only because of needless anxiety of some individuals it's a sad day for cantr world.

Okay, I'm a bit slow.... what is the advantage of doing this?

Re: Docking events
Sneaking from one Harbour to another for dragging someone in secret, stealing ship and changing name in another harbour, visiting closed harbour without knowledge of chars in location, keeping in secret fact of coming or leaving of some ships to/from closed harbour. There are plenty of ways to use this feature but it doesn't matter anymore...

And where's the fun of it if there is no risk of getting caught?

Re: Docking events
No risk of not getting caught you mean?
I didn't get here in time to vote apparently, but, no, I do not think docking to a harbor should generate an event. Harbors can be locked, so already any visitors can be completely kept out of a town just on the suspicion that they might be pirates. Or if they are pirates, you get the warning when they start busting the lock.
Leave things the way they are.
