In the latter case, not everybody would get to hear what is said (what would seem more realistic), but the chance of a private conversation being heard would also depend on the crowdedness of a location. If there's only one other char around, there's a 1% chance of your convo being heard, if there are 100 chars around, it's almost certain someone gets to hear it.

1% might be a little low, but it shouldn't be much higher.

I'm in favor of the concept of having a small % chance of a line of whispered dialog being randomly overheard by a random person (I think that's better than everyone), but I'm wondering about the practical effects. Right now, whisperers are viewed with suspicion. If people suddenly start going indoors to talk, might that make indoor meetings turn suspicious? Maybe we should look for unintended consequences for a bit before accepting.

We can start with a small percentage and if it doesn't work out, it can be switched back to 0 to make it stop working. Also if it turns out it's too rare, it can be made more common. And naturally it will be tested in the test environment first.

Doug, pretty much every character except those played by people who give a damn about personalities and flaws in characters are completely paranoid and would kill people for taking a potato or walking in a building thinking they might have stolen something. Pretty much everything done in Cantr is thought of as suspicious by at least some.

I like the idea. But on the test server only the very first whisper was overhead, coincidence or bug? EDIT: Hmm, now with another character it was overheard twice more at random moments, seems fine.

The first two whispers were with 50% probability, after that I changed it to 2%.

Should it be in;

'Not yet accepted suggestions that we are trying out already'?

Well I for one disagree. If someone really doesn't want to be heard, they can say something in such a manner that somebody would have to be intentionally eavesdropping to hear, and would probably be seen doing so. It would kind of defeat the purpose of private conversations if the privacy wasn't assured.
