Essence of songs quiz

I have long been convinced that many (probably most) songs can be identified by simply taking a few words/phrases from the lyrics that exist in no other song as a set (this concept was later used by others as a basis for "googlewhacking" and documkent fingerprinting). So, hopefully, I am clearish on what I mean, so wtihout further ado: Identify the following classic oldies (hey, sorry, I'm an old fogey) from their unique words/phrases (titles only is fine. I don't usually know the artists anyhow). Then add your own:

1. "apricot", "eclipse", "Nova Scotia"
2. "starfish" "roller coaster" "rubber"
3. "peaches", "Maurice", "smoker"
4. "silicon" "deuce" "Mozart"

(and no cheating by typing these into google plus the word "lyrics")

Excellent, All. You will have to go back to 1966 for the missing one, which got all the way to #2 on the charts.

Interesting difference between the forums here and on on OEDILF.com (the Omnificient English Dictionary In Limerick Form) I posted the same thing there, the same time as here (+/- 5 minutes), and there the thread has now gone on to 5 pages, with more than 45 songs already posted by different folks). And yet, here? Nothing (although I do admit that the median age of their posters is higher than here, so these songs probably resonate more with them than here). Which isn't to say people here can't post from more modern songs. But in the meantime...

5. "bootlace" "breast" "nun"
6. "Lucy" "alligator" "potato"
7. "thousand" "loneliness" "Frisco"
8. "undertaker" "exploded" "charity"

My problem is not so much not knowing the songs as not knowing the lyrics. I tend to ignore English lyrics out of pure habit (there was a time I couldn't understand them and it worked just as well) and if I do pay attention, I find most of them hardly worth remembering.

That said, I don't have a clue about the new set either.

I think this group may be a bit different and I certainly don't know any of the modern songs, lady gag gag or whatever.

Bells are ringing in my head gejyspa...I just may need a while to collate it. Its not like anybody else is guessing. We may be dating ourselves here.

I was surprised that Simon and Garfunkel covered "Red Rubber Ball". I know the original by Cyrkle, but yes, and yes to Band on the Run.

Number 5 should be easy....

Thank you, I took the photo then put the moon (and stained glass) into the crystal ball I was holding... and yes, the moon pic was mine too.
