Name and Description game

Postby Leo Luncid » Wed Aug 08, 2007 7:51 pm

You make up a name (it could be a name of person, place, or thing); the next post makes up someting that would describe that said name (of said person, place, or thing), along with another name to continue off from.

Here are some key points to this game:

-Your descriptions are made up only from the imagination you can conjure from the name in question, nothing else.

-You could specify your name to be that of a person, place, thing; you could even make up a general noun if you want. If you decide not to be specific, then it all goes to the next poster to decide what it is (of course, you could have your name to be assumed to be that of a person, place, or thing; depending on your made-up name). If your name is that of a person, you could choose to include an epitaph, a middle name, not a last name, ect.

-Your description could be as long as you want, as descriptive as you want, whatever you would like to include. Just be sure to end your post with a made-up name for the game to continue.

-If you don't want to think up of a name, you could choose use names you've made up before, like that of your Cantr characters, usernames, ect. You could also choose to use a name after some person, place, or thing. Both kinds of names are fine as long as that name is not very recognizable or known 'round here. Otherwise someone could just easily describe the person, place, or thing from it's original source.

-You can think of this game as something similar to Word Association in that you're trying to think up of something that could associate, or relate to target name. Only that, well, you're making up of a description instead of thinking up of one word.

This game is made with the intention of showing one's creativity.

Name simply being:

It's similar to the Answer and Question game in some respects. I make up a name; you make up a description that could relate to it. Your description is supposed to be made up, and made up only from the imagination you can conjure from the name in question, nothing else. Hence why I restrict the use of names that are recognizable or known in the boundaries of this forum.

Here, I'll show you how it's simply played by answering my made-up name.

Example wrote:Codan
This young man tends to keeps his hands in pockets of his dark blue jeans as he bends his head in various directions. His repelling presence seems clear as his face expresses that of disinterest and monotone. The sleeves of his shirt outsize him as he shuffles his jet black, unkempt hair at his leisure, his eyes very observant here and there.

(insert name here)
There, something that describes that person, a visual I came to create just from the name itself (in this case, I may gotten this inspired of some other fictional character, but a typical description nonetheless).

That's all there is to it, though I do realize it's sometimes harder than one could imagine.

Really, thanks for speaking out, Elros; I should've regained the habit of inserting examples from before.

An elven school-teacher who has a secret double identity. By days she teaches history to the children of high-ranking citizens (but not the nobles, as their kids are home schooled). By night she's a popular courtisan who frequents the balls of the nobles, escorting this and that rich client. She wears a mask although it's likely that no one could make the connection even without it. During the nocturnal activities she is seen in dashing silk gowns and carrying expensive dwarvish jewelry. But when she teaches, she wears a high-necked wool dress, usually in dull shades of green and has ink-stains on her fingertips. Her hair is long and brown, naturally worn on a neat bun during the day and twisted into all sorts of wild fashion patterns for the night. Elves don't sleep. The only one to know the truth about her double-identity is her hand-maiden Emiddah who was rescued from the streets as a child by Avealnal's family. The family has some noble blood but they had a lot of financial trouble and once Avealnal's father was assasinated, most likely by one of his creditors, they were forced to sell the house to cover for the debts. Her mother passed away of sorrow (boohoo) leaving the young daughter to survive on her own.

Ok thanks Leo, I understand now.

Looking around at the bay one might feel a since of drear. The large jagged rocks protruding out from the cliffs on the edge of the sea give off a fearsome and dangerous presence. The waves, now stormy and rough, pound frantically into the rocks as if trying to beat them into submission. No ships will you see in this bay, for the rocks that grow from the cliff walls are nothing more than a mirror of what you will find under the surface of the choppy water. The whole bay is filled with small sunken islands of stone, and proves fatal to the bow of any ship that attempts to navigate it's dark waters.

Well I could write it but it wouldn't make any sense if I was writing every other thing there is. This game needs more people.

I think I made the instructions a little too bland and unclear. I think I'll start over on that and try make them more clear and easier to skim.[done]

Acid rains are constant over these lands of near-ends. The clouds grew evermore discontent as they are formed from fuming gas leaks and geysers underground. Rotting hazes and mists accompany the endless nights and barren flats. Sometimes the liquid would not dissolve through plains underground and would pile into puddles, ponds, lakes, oceans. Over the horizon, through the flashes of lightning, the bordering risings of stone could be seen, and beyond, an occasional sunlight would pierce through the darkness.

As you glance around the town you have just arrived in, you notice that nothing seems seperate. Everything seems to connect to something else in some way. The buildings start at the edge of town and in some shape or form, they always touch the next building, whether by a bridge allowing people to travel from one building to the next or by wood, brick or whatever the building consists of spreading across the space of ground between the buildings. Everything just seems... Whole.

This furry four-legged animal tends to have its limbs spread out as it travels like that of a lizard. The small abberation has a protruding horn of bone off the rough horizontal face of bordering teeth. It travels through forests using its black inch nails sticking out on each of its four fingers in each limb. The stubby tail sways along the creature's movement.

A two-edged long sword made out of adament stone that glows with a greenish blue tint. It has enrgravings on both sides of it written in some ancient language, and the handle of the sword is made a glass-like material. The sword must be wielded with two hands because of its tremendous weight, but because of the magical power this sword posseses, it can cut through the hardest substances on earth with one single blow.

A place of many flowing rivers. Trees spread their limbs high into the air and the leaves cause the light to appear muted almost when it touches the soft blades of grass in this glade. Deer jump across the rivers, their white tails flashing and laughter can be heard over the sound of running water. A beautiful place...

"Never fear the darkness... Fear what it hides."

And that's how this story, told to those under their twenties, is concluded.
This story of these descriptively fearsome dark creatures never known in
light; it is only by night where the outside is the outside children ever
dare to tread. For when you ever have the madness to venture into light's
bane...

First there's loss of breath, as if there's a force of nature pressuring on
your throat. You're unable to carry yourself as your warmth fades, as
your senses get lost. Nothing to touch but the harsh cobblestone ground,
nothing to smell but of your own gasping breath, nothing to see but the
blackness pushing your eyes inward. Nothing to feel save for that
forsakeness that has wrought upon you...

A true myth for those who live in such fortunate places in times, but for
Raverand, a city of timely troubles, such entities exist. Never to be seen,
but only to be a victim of; such are these creatures to be named the
NightWalkers.

(that was absolutely beautiful!)

A small man greets you at the gates with a grin and a wink and you can't help but chuckle. His oiled back hair and the fact that he comes barely to the waist of your pants gives the moment a sense of amusement.

"Please, step lively and enter into the wonderful land of Betwixt and Between where all of your dreams," the man pauses a moment, wiggling his eyebrows at the crowd in front of him now, "and your nightmares! Watch your step once you pass these gates because there are only two exits and yours will be chosen for you." A sinister grin is all you see of the man as he backs out of your way as you are pushed forward through the gates.

Laughter and screams mix in the air as you walk along the short path that dumps you into what seems almost a carnival and you feel as if you are drawn to stand between two buildings. One appears to be a church on the outside but from inside you hear screams and you quickly glance at the building next to it. A fun house complete with it's own clown outside and laughter seems to pour out of the buildings and naturally your feet take you to it's front doors and through them. You are quickly lost in the crowd, bouncing around in the mirrors and laughter bubbles from between your lips as you take pleasure in the vile acts reflecting back to you...

The person next to you had come the same way and stopped before the two buildings as well. They glance at the fun house and wince as the wind brings the smell of death and decay from the house and the sound of terror. They quickly run towards the church, already lifting their voices to join the choir in their hymns....

He is a thin framed man with a long nose and thick glasses. He has black scraggly hair that does not seem to have been brushed in forever, and is hanging off his head in every direction. His skin is pale, and he looks like he never has been out in the sun before. His fingers are long and bony, and when he sits he slumps forward somewhat. He is shy when confronted by others, and seems most comfortable when he is at home alone with his computer. The only conversation that he will perk up and talk about are ones that have to do with computers, and he will ramble on using terms that quickly bore the listeners. However, he does not notice, and will just keep on talking until someone changes the subject, then he will sluntch back and remain quiet until he gets the cue to speak about computers again.
