Just want to add... taking a look at the most recent members, there seem to be quite a number of spam accounts with links to porn, pills/drugs, and gambling.

Yes, there are.

I'd say at leat 70% of recent new users are spam users. Thankfully, they don't post.

There's little we can do about spam at the moment except manually removing it. Spam users aren't worth the time it takes to get rid of them.

Email verification?

That must at least clear/stop over 50% of spammers, or hinder them.

In most case they are non activated accounts Unfortunately when
a person /bot signs up they get added to the membership list at once (this is a feature of the 3rd party forum s/w) - before replying to the CAPTCHA visual and subsequent email activation - so they appear in the membership list - They get no benefit as the membership and profiles pages are now ignored by the search engine spiders - but they are don't know that.

I will purge all accounts not activated in a reasonable amount of time and try to do this on a regualr basis

Is there no setting that does it automatically after a certain period?

No there isn't - nor are there any periodic process assoicated with the forum

We do have access to the source code but ProgD isn't really in the business of writing phpBB mods - periodic deleting will have to surfice until the developers address this issue

Isn't Prozac a prescription only drug?
