Porn spam

Postby SekoETC » Sun Mar 19, 2006 3:35 pm

Our newest forum member KlinKoss (0 posts) has a commercial gay porn site as their "homepage" (http://www.on-teens.com/naked-buff-men.htm) - reason to believe it's just a spammer.

Spamma765 and bitare773 both have the same link http://killhim.boom.ru

Marjohn has http://www.true-ringtone.net - sounds like spam.

and421, And4316, alex, And6035, And4286, drug-test-761, golden-showers-718 and255, and690, and129, Vikariy880, and580, and757, and752, and052, man there's a lot of these, joined within a short time, advertizing how to pass a drug test, mainly linking to chopoy.com

Body-jewelry-593, Body jewelry, *-navel-ring, tongue-ring-313, Bill720, - advertizing jewelry.

valium-049, Vi324ctor, Vi330ctor, Erik312, jjkent, Vica609, milenia907 - advertizing drugs.

riso12, child - Something called Riso Graphic

patriziacharms784 - Usually the ones that contain charms have been spamming piercings

blyadi - hotels

Jane987, Jane026 - printing

Many links point to some sub page of boom.ru or other .ru sites.

Johanni170, Mike082, Creampie201, milenia693, heylo563, Palmer684, aphrodisiac.520, fotoman035, d4734e93@spamday.com I didn't have time to check these but generally anyone with 0 posts and a web site is 99% likely to be a spammer.

Ok I have no life.

Just looking at one page of the newest users, there's at least 4 of them like this.

I think we'll need to consider a more difficult forum registration process so it is not so easy. Perhaps a code which one gets when they make their playing account, so it will at least go through the PD filter. Obviously, those with forum accounts already would just keep those.

PhpBB has a CAPTCHA feature - it gives you a fuzzy picture, you type in the word shown - that should stop automated spambots. But Nitefyre's idea would be much more effective.

These fuzzy pictures are completely inaccessible to the visually impaired, so please try any other alternative.

The spam bots can't post, unless there's a new spam bot that works with logged-in posting. And the usual spam bots that post do so without a log-in, and we have removed access for posting to non registered users.

The only way these spam bots can advertise is if people go looking at the webpages of new users, which I can't imagine many people do.

Most phpBB forums get a few of these spam bots registering a day, there's no reason for the Cantr forums to be any different.

The easiest way around it is to require e-mail activation of the account.

To be honest though, as these bots aren't posting, this is hardly a priority or a really big problem.

The newest member, called bottle_gym has a link that is trying to look like yahoo mail but there's a rather... pornish picture behind. And it is suspicious that a not-yahoo site would be named like one, it might be phishing related.
