Inventory going above 15 kg

I had a full inventory, and I was making small logs on a lathe. When the project finished the logs went into my inventory and the carried weight increased to 15500 grams.

Objects don't check the weight limit, so you can get unlimited inventory through finished projects, but no one will be able to hand you anything in this state and you can't pick up more.

I assume it's intentional so people can't steal things you're making (vehicle keys especially) by loading up your arms before the project tick.
