Simple bag

Postby Doug R. » Tue Feb 21, 2012 9:37 pm

Wacky idea of the day!!!!

It seems pretty crazy that you can hold infinite notes and 15 kilos of stuff on a naked body. How about everyone spawn with a "simple bag" that is associated with their inventory? Everything they carry is presumed to be in the bag. The benefit of this is that you can instantly drop everything just by dropping your bag! It would act like a portable container and would make weight testing easy.

-A character could only carry one bag
-A character without a bag can't carry anything, but can make a new one in an hour from nothing.
-Discarded bags have a very rapid outdoor deterioration rate, spilling their contents as like upon death.
-Held bags disappear upon character death
-If you try to drop your bag, you get a stern warning about the repercussions of doing so

Absolutely AWESOME!

-Held bags disappear upon character death

-Discarded bags have a very rapid outdoor deterioration rate, spilling their contents as like upon death.

That means the stuff of a dying one get spilled to the floor?

If you can only hold one bag, and someone discards one, does that mean it just sits until it deteriorates? Or can it be emptied like a container?

I think this should be like normal container ( on ground ), dragable and could be emptied.
I like this idea, to now people in many case have problem with this when try RP many things.. ( *he looks for something in his backpack* )

Yes, it would behave just like a container when on the ground, the lone exception being that it would rot away in a day or so if left outside. This is to prevent the world filling up with useless simple bags.

-Held bags disappear upon character death.

I would give this the same treatment as dropping the bag (one day for deterioration). That would make it soooo much easier to pick up the things of a dead character, just picking up the bag.

This said, I like this idea.

But you couldn't pick it up if you could only hold one at a time. Unless you dropped your own first. Edit: And it doesn't quite make sense that everything was in a bag, wielded weapons and shields and tools in use logically wouldn't be. Maybe it would be more useful if there was just a drop multiple page like with notes, and a button for checking everything. Then if you decided you didn't want to drop your shield or keys after all, you could still drop the majority faster than doing manually. With the bag, if there was a single item you wanted to keep, you couldn't keep it and drop the rest at once...

Maybe weapons, shields and keys could be considered "different" and not be in the bag by default? You could carry your weapon and shield on your back, and the keys in your pocket.
Anyways, it doesn't make more sense that you can carry all that in a naked body than you can keep it all in a single bag. Many things in Cantr don't make much sense at all.

And yeah, I see your point, Seko, but then maybe the "just only one bag allowed" thing should be changed. You could carry a limited number, two maybe (allowing you to have yours and pick another one), but your total inventory would still be of a maximum of 15 kg. And the "new" bag would be contained in your default.

Just brainstorming here.

One item at a time, if it works like a regular container, which would be no faster than picking things scattered on the ground.

But at least you can know that those things belonged that dead char...
To me, at least, seems important.

Agreed, but I think there are better ways to arrange that than a bag made out of nothingness.

Personally I wouldn't bother with explaining what grants a character hammerspace, since very few other games do it and the average player should have been exposed to the concept one time or other. In fact, having an actual tangible object to hold your inventory seems somehow more strange to me than simply carrying it around. Strange, but true.

My additional proposition, including some you opinion:
* any character have it on start, like Doug say
* if you lost it, you can make new from any type of cloth in game (not "from nothing")
* without it you char can carry only some smaller weight, for sample only 3000grams without this bag, 15000grams with bag. This give you possibilty to take some weapon and shield, few thing we can carry in our hands etc.

Wouldn't this be the first container to deteriorate and to be able to hold items? Gotta make sure that the contents fall out when the container crumbles.
