Event updates while whispering a character

Postby g1asswa1ker » Thu Aug 18, 2011 4:03 pm

Anyway to like a feed from the normal text screen to the private message screen ... as while typing a private message you miss the feed that scrolls.
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

Let me translate :)

While typing a message to all characters in the location, you get updates in the event list whenever something new happens. But while whispering to a character, you don't.
Reality is that which when you stop believing in it does not go away. (Philip K. Dick)

Thank you... sorry I wasn't all there when I posted earlier. :)

It would be very easy to mistake one interface for the other, and say things you intend to whisper, and vice versa. If we would do this we need to make a very obvious distinction between the two pages.

I would think the private message screen would be fine, just need a feed showing event line update...

I think this would be a good addition.

I changed the topic title by the way.

I ditto the good idea, and don't see how this would be confusing - if you still have to specifically click on the dialogue box by a character's name to whisper, you won't mix everything up.

If we change the whisper page to look like the normal event page (with an event feed), it could get confusing. We need to make sure they are different enough looking to avoid confusing them. Especially since we will probably make it so that every page have the same top menu (character info and buttons to inventory, objects, people, etc). All I'm saying.

If it would show only last five events and maybe limit them to speaking (either in public or to you), that should probably be enough not to miss anything critical and it would look different enough not to cause mixups.

You could possibly store the id of the event that happened. When you click "say", notify the play that has been updates and show them the events that have happened since they started typing. I believe the forums do this now or at least forums I have used in the past. The player would have to submit again.

I bet that would be much simpler than using javascript.
