Rats as plague

Postby tonidelju » Fri Mar 11, 2011 11:11 pm

I would like that dead bodies attracted rats. If not buried in one day, rats -with a high reproduction rate, would appear in large numbers. I think this could be a good way to keep the villages clean of corpses, a more original form than the eating sickness. To remove this pest, it would suffice to bury the dead, the number of rats would decrease automatically or characters would have to kill the rodents.

Rats with fleas, that would force characters work 50% slower in any project because of the time spent scratching themselves. :P

if we're adding this we have to work with a few other things, dirtyness must have a disease factor and be implimented with this, we must also be able to wash ourselves resting in a tub also make it possible to wash ourselves with a towel. buildings would have to be cleanable with a broom and the rat infestation would have to dramatically increase rot rates of food stuffs not on hand or in containers.

although we also have to consider a way to make tombs feasable that rats are not attracted to bodies in those..

prehaps the ability of rats to enter buildings should be reflective of their state of repair, a 'used' building should have a hole big enough that rats can effect it's contents ;) or if there is no lock

rat reproduction should be amped by 2 things, food laying around and bodies laying around, removing both should plummet the rate to 0 or near it and the remaining rats would have to be exterminated by the people, something that small shouldn't take a seasoned hunter/warrior with steel weaponry to drop one hit kills,

FPA army used to have a pet wolf that actually out-ranked most of the people.

I just wonder how hard this would be to do. I have a char that would go ape if the town was infected with rats. :D Whole towns chasing them around with dung forks... oh the possibilities.

Rats gnawing everything else, as a mechanism for destroying organic stockpiles?

I'll never understand people's obsession with "stockpiles". I think it's a cop-out to blame older players with stockpiles for the games problems, rather than thinking about what the actual problems are.
