I never understood why we don't stack duplicate items.
it would turn that into this:
Three new iron shields
Twenty use iron shields
Thirteen often-used iron shields

How about a javascript hide/show triangle for categories of items (weapons, shields, tools)?

or we could just handle duplicate items like we do resources.

I like that "treat them like resources" idea a lot better than a clickable triangle, though I have the impression it's going to annoy me when my thief character has to search through a storage room filled with hundreds of objects and no handy block of tools to skip.

I mean, that'd be useful for everyone, especially towns with large inventories.
I really wish there was some way to organize stuff in cantr; how it is now my neurotic mind interprets it as "everything's thrown on the floor it's such a mess OMG".

Even them in order of decay is good, I dont want to see this become a huge issue.

15 brand new iron shields.
3 crumbling iron shields.
How much to you want to pick up?
Im building buildings for massive days just to keep my computer from going (ok and me) bonkers. This leaves any rich town at odds because it cant search quickly but has come no where close to actually filling the room. Hell with you hematite hoarding ( O.o) towns, I have finished products let me get to them without a stall.

I was thinking each 'type' of item could be a different version of that item, treated as a different 'resource'.
Example:
7 brand new iron shields
14 used iron shields
5 crumbling iron shields
(click on the pick up button)
How many brand new iron shields do you want?
(type in 6)
ground:
1 brand new iron shield
14 used iron shields
5 crumbling iron shields
Inventory:
6 brand new iron shields.
easy peasy.

So what's the problem with placing objects in containers?

Items can only exist in locations, and a container isn't a location. At least, I think that's the problem.
