Cantr II Discussion Forum

Hello all! In two days, I'll be in China with my college's Tour Choir! I have two motives for posting this:

1) My characters will likely be silent for the next ten days. Either that, or they will be awake at extremely awkward times. I'll try to get on during my stay, but no promises. If a character around you suddenly has a crazy active schedule, it's probably one of mine. Be nice <3

2) I have no idea what to expect from China. We have an itinerary from the tour company and we've prepared in all the ways that we can. But does anybody have some last-minute advice? I'm as terrified as I am excited!

Well, I mean comparatively! Not the usual window of time for my characters to be awake.

Don't get arrested.

If it's still moving, don't eat it.

Mainland china is a good place but expect bad english. But if you are on a guided Tour that problem is taken care of.

There are some famous "copy" markets in various cities, most are fine but in some the staff will grab your hand to try and drag you in the store. And be rest assured none of the products are genuine.

And as Rebma says - don't get arrested as the local police commanders can sentance you for up to 30 days on the spot.

But it is great but usual safety precautions prevail.

I love how Westerners or English-speaking folk can go to China and expect English, even if it's bad. Makes it easy for tourists. It's great.

Don't use the wrong maps. Apparently if your map doesn't heavily feature China as being in the center and including Taiwan and Hong Kong as part of China, you can get fined or possibly arrested. If the click sites that keep showing up on my News Feed are to be believed, anyway.

Thank you so much, everyone! I'll definitely keep all of this in mind, especially the more terrifying parts. Hopefully the markets won't drain my pockets completely... It will be very difficult to haggle when I can't speak Mandarin :/ I'm also very afraid of getting arrested now

Hello! I have some down time and wanted to say hello As I kind of expected, I have no time at all for Cantr right now. Hopefully something ridiculous doesn't happen in Cantr while I'm here But I'm absolutely loving Shanghai! It's such an interesting city. There's a really interesting split between the old and new sections of the city, split across the river; one side is the traditional side, while the other is full of skyscrapers. It's also less "strict" than I thought it would be here. We do have some places that we have to visit as mandated by the government, but our tour guides are both very laid-back and one of them was even talking about how he gets around China'a great firewall with a VPN he bought. I was half-expecting to get shot if I said anything anti-government, but one said, and I quote, "The laws are more like suggestions."

So far, we visited the Yu Gardens and the Silk Museum, and we saw an acrobatics show. I also woke up with a small cluster of white dots on my arm. My friend said that it might be an allergic reaction to something. Good thing I have no idea what that could be!
