Greetings from Argentina

Postby Eleiris » Fri Aug 06, 2010 9:45 am

I just wanted to share a video that says a lot about my country. The music is from a band called "Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota" that was very popular around the beginning of the nineties. (And still is, very much).

The name of the song is "Nuestro amo juega al esclavo", our master plays slave literally, which means something like the tyrant pretends to be one of us. And the lyrics pretty much explain that situation.

The images are sometimes quite shocking (be warned), they're all taken from real situations in Argentina (and real tyrants), that relate heavily with the lyrics.

I just wanted to share it with the world, 'cause it's our fucking anthem!
Rescatemos nuestro oro mis valientes. ¡Con coraje!¡Con la espada! ...con los dientes.
¡Mi honra está en juego, y de aquí, no me muevo!

Nice one, although it's more for dancing than for rioting...
And yes, Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota is an impressive band... Even for an academic music type of person as myself.

Just minutes ago they were interviewing a Venezuela writer who has lived in Argentina and Mexico extensively, and they were using musical cues to set the mood for each era of his life, and his time in Argentina he said was inevitably linked to his favorite band when there, "una banda que no se oye mucho afuera, pero que lo fue todo para mí alla adentro", Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos. I smiled and remembered you.
