Fast communication

Postby The Industriallist » Wed Oct 01, 2003 3:20 am

This may not be possible if I am confused about game mechanics, if so please post why not.

People on roads can communicate instantly with anyone else on the same road. Thus, if you arranged to have two people standing on opposite ends of the road, you could pass messages from one end to the other in only the one 'hour' it would take for the receiver to enter the area on their end of the road.

I thought I should air this here before expliting it in-game, because it seems to abuse the game mechanics. No-one really can shout over several miles... but if this is acceptable I have one character who will propose it... If I am not told that it is bad within a week, I will do so.

It is a thought

I have been thing of this for some time althou in an experiment that I have done you would need more then two cause of the length of roads, cause when you traval you do not see the whole road just a certan part. There for you would have to have maybe 4-6 char on the road just far enough apart to see the first and third person of course that would be a very boring character as they would only be able to talk to each other and could not do anything but stand there so two towns would have to ensure a releif structure and payment plan for this service as you would have to leave the road some time for food. also a change of scene or ust to talk to someone different. :D
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

There's nothing wrong with your idea. I doubt that 4 - 5 chars will suffice, tho. And it's of coursenot ok, if the relay characters are from one account. Or from two on the same computer. You get the idea. ;-)

Yeah, not to mention you would need to account the time it takes for each of those people to ake up and pass it on. It may not be much faster then just walking and it certainly would cost less.

The idea has been used irl so i don's see a conflict. For example, passing messages by light signals between gaurd towers to communicate over long distances quickly. There would be little loss of efficiency due to waking up if the messengers had a prearranged time to get on the road each day, week or whatever. They could even work on other tasks in the mean time.

and they could organize this in character, of course, so that there would be no rule breach.

You cannot work on anything while on the road though. You can only talk, write, and eat.

It is a good idea is just wastes the most valuable resource in a place:
Active People

They would have to be paid well.

THe two on the ends could hop on and off the trail and get work done when there was no messages to be sent.

No, they really couldn't, because a message could come in from the other end and would be missed.

what i meant is that if the messangers agree to send messages at say 2:30, they would only have to step on to the road during the second hour and then turn around. At 3 they would be back in town. This would allow them to work the whole day except that one hour.
