at least in my opinion

I like it when players take their time to make things interesting. Just saying.

This. Whether one describes a specific wood in detail or uses the name, the intended effect is the same- enabling others to envision something similar to what they envision. Depending on the length/type of the description, using a specific name may be a better option at times.

That is why it does not really take any fun away for me. I am still getting to imagine what others want to express. Sometimes describing the exact grain and color of a wood helps illustrate better (like rocking chairs/statues) and sometimes just knowing that it is oak or a light oak or a dark oak (perhaps on a couch with detailed fabric) is enough to add to the overall picture. :)

I don't think he's asking for specific types of wood to be implemented. Rather, he is upset that his friend got grief from someone for describing something not explicitly stated to exist.

This. Personally I think separating woods out into real different woods would be a real hassle, and require a lot more work on part of the server to handle. (Though if one wished. Description of the local flora could be added to the location tab, including what kind of trees are local to the area. Perhaps have the various continents and islands have unique mixes?)

It's just something that when I was called over to the laptop and told "hey Nick, look at this guy over here" I just thought it was particularly mind numbing to see someone getting that angsty about the description of a crossbow.
We had a laugh. I forgot about it a couple weeks, thought of bringing it up here for lulz.

As far as all the other people and their discussions on how they would describe things? I dunno, it would depend on what we're describing as to whether I'd personally want to name a wood "Oak, Ash, Beech" versed describing the wood, "deep brown, coarse grained hardwood" or something like that.

If the description of the thing is already kinda long... name the wood. Most people know what different woods look like, and it adds character to the thing without taking up a lot of space. And worst comes to worst, if they don't know what Mahogany looks like... google it.

If it's something without much description, and you want it described, I'd say drag it out a bit.

Not an annoyance. But I wonder. How many ships there are around? Tied up at various harbors, their owners long dead through various means.

I might be wrong but I think if you don't enter a ship for X amount of days, it turns into a shipwreck.

So whatever that number once was, it is likely quickly shrinking.

There is a thread for stats questions. I think i have seen stats about ships before.
In the public stats there is a stat about the number of sailing ships.

Afaik abandoned ships that are floating (not docked) for over 200 days have a chance of turning into a shipwreck and wash up on the nearest coastal location. They probably won't last long after the 200th day.
I think ...

The boats docked to harbors are safe from becoming shipwrecks.

Ask to take it back and get it repaired?

Sometimes they're like eggs. You just gotta feed it, keep it warm, and hope it hatches into something brilliant.

Even if that's running in and out of buildings and taking the unlocked vehicle.

Agreed. Sometimes I spawn with a somewhat fleshed out idea of what I want to do with a char, others it's a clean slate, and I wait for the town to inculcate my wee char. I try to do the same on the flip side (though all my chars are in their 20's, and haven't seen a bunch of newspawns yet).

This game has always been about give and take. It's like any great improv rpg setting, if you create the environment (and it can take only a few active interesting characters to revitalize a town) they usually will respond.

I always look within the rules and wiki at what things have not been done (at least in my six+ yrs).

I have done a chef... I had an idea of doing a food truck idea out of a bus or van. Just a "roach coach" type thing that has specialty foods and stuff for trade. Not a load of potatoes, but some of the more advanced foods... never did it. Maybe its an idea for someone else.

A lot of the items are not available to do perfect recipes, but it is roleplaying after all. I have a char who likes to make picnic baskets (been a while though) and asks people out for 'dates' or 'picnics'. Great for a vacation to the beach or romantic interlude in the forest.

Certain items allow a lot of creativity. If a game exists in your head and imagination, put it to work.
I am certainly not a good example, but I guess I am outing a few of my own.
The Ice Sisters was a great concert early on. I guess they lost the player who made them creative.
It was fun while it lasted...still there is everything for concert bands.
Or the lone guitarist who falls upon existential lyrics.

I have seen a few very creative chars and some of us are just not reacting to them.
Support imagination!

If you do it, I will stop annoying you by ending my messages with:

Be well.

I've searched the forum, but couldn't find anything about it. I'm pretty sure that there should be some discussion about that though.

Characters whispering intimate/sexual gestures annoy me and puzzle me a lot.
