Thinking about quitting.....
I am having a big problem getting back into the game after traveling quite a bit for the last month, and am putting serious thought into quitting. I had quit once before, and always felt bad about how sudden my choice was. I hate letting down people that might be depending on one of my people.
So I ask the forum this. Should I just keep my people alive as long as I can in case I feel like playing more once winter comes around? If I decide to quit, how do you think is the best way to go about it? Some of my people are quite wealthy and in charge of different places, and I don't want them to just drop dead, but also think it would be strange if they started giving things away. If I felt like role playing out an end, I probably wouldn't be quitting.

i would keep the chars alive and quiet until you feel like playing again
having sleepy chars wake up after years of sleeping in game is always a joyful and interesting event. far more interesting than death, imo.

Well, I'd say, rather keep them alive a bit too long than kill them off that crucial bit too soon. Noone is hurrying you, so take your time to think about it.

well, you could consider each one induvidually, some you might be able to stash away with a load of food, you might have a couple you could still play in the meantime (or not), and then others you might 'discard' still

I've been in the middle of a similar decision. After a string of let downs, stuff going on IRL, and just general boredom with the game, I'd probably be quitting myself right now if it weren't for one character in particular. That said, I'll probably be killing off a few, some of which I wouldn't have forseen myself being able to let go of even in the recent past.

Why dont you send your characters off on a long journey , it could be for trade, seeing old friends, tourism, settling old scores, etc.
While being away from people that they know you , you can decide whether you want to come back to your old life, begin a new one in a foreign place or just give up and die from starvation.
Meanwhile you can trust your keys and your wealth to a trustee in your village with instructions that if you dont come back withing lets say 5 years time how he or she should distribute your stuff.

I would agree with this last option. Especially if you have town leaders. Sleepy town leaders have already become quite a problem in a lot of places and are holding back a lot of other characters looking for opportunity. I personally do not like when a character is left sleeping because a player isn't into the game, and forcing others to do without. If you've a leader at least, that character should pass on keys to someone else to handle things while they're sleepy so people aren't stuck waiting on you to wake up. As far as quitting completely, I'd personally put your characters gathering food so they stay stocked up and put your account on leave. Give yourself some time to consider if quitting is really what you want.
Re: Thinking about quitting.....
If it's purely about what the in-game implications are? If I were unable to get into the game... I would just hit the 'X'. Characters will deal with it how they deal with it.
If 'you' are concerned that you may play more later? and are concerned that you want your characters to maintain their wealth and stuff? That's a big risk, and again, I would make reference to the 'sleepy leader' issue.
As for 'grooming' a new leader? I think that could be played, but alas, it's going to take some time in game right now, and it sounds like you don't have it. It's a tough one, and you know? I don't think anyone would blame you whatever route you take. It's just a shame to see someone leave the game.

I'd say just give keys (or make copies) to someone else and then sleep somewhere..

Thanks for the responses so far. The good thing is, all my people with wealth share it with someone else, so if I do go quite, there will be people with access to everything. I will start to stock up on food and see how it goes

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
Well I clicked the big X today after the first of my characters died. It was a good second round, and I had a lot of fun.
Thanks to the following players who really made this time enjoyable:
Owen Love - If only you wouldn't have died, I think we could have had amazing adventures
Everyone who helped me worship the Great Spirits - Kate and Burton you made things fun for awhile.
Puddle and rest of Baaak - You were the only place I considered home
Katie Angel, Lishker and Susie - Take care!
Queen Zijira - Awesome to make trouble with you, I hope your memory causes problems for the Do'Urdens for years to come.
And everyone who had the patience to deal with James Page.
Thanks for the good time!
