Removing note duplicates
We have a new small functionality to get rid of some rubbish.
When you enter an envelope full of notes, you can notice a new "remove note duplicates" button in top-right corner.
When used, it removes duplicates of uneditable notes (excluding the sealed ones). It applies only to notes having the same "ancestor" in hierarchy of copying.
For editable notes, it removes duplicates which have exactly the same title, content, encoding and some other hidden parameters.
It's guaranteed that at least one note will not be removed, so it's still impossible to completely remove all instances of any uneditable note. Sometimes more than one of a type is left, but it's not a bug, probably one of the hidden parameters differs.

Object descriptions
It's now possible to describe objects.
Most of objects, for which it's enabled, can be described during manufacturing (if it is, then you'll notice a new checkbox on build confirmation page) and later, using a specific tool.
There is only a single tool for every object. How to learn which one?
It's based on tools required to manufacture an object. If there are multiple tools, then it's the first one you find on the following list: needle, pliers, crochet hook, peen hammer, hammer, carving knife, chisel, knife.
It's currently possible to describe most of clothes, weapons, shields. Describing object costs time, both when you describe object at manufacture time or later.
When you have a suitable tool, then you'll probably notice a new scissors button which is used to change object description. You select an object from the list and it starts a desc change project. Easy.
If you can't change object's description, then, most likely, it's currently impossible.
The exceptions are: barrel, oil drum, container, small silo, chest, apothecary kit, tin can, large wooden crate, small barrel, large barrel, tin can, small wooden crate, steel flask, small glass bottle, large glass bottle, reed basket, grass basket. They use slightly different system: can be described using labels made of rice paper. Such label is like a normal tool used to change description, but:
1. labels deteriorate quickly when being used to perform such project
2. labels can't be repaired, so most likely you'll need more than one to finish it.
It's possible that you will need more - or less - than one label, if description change project is short or long.

I think that's all. Please, remember to read object description guide before setting any description. Please don't make redundant descriptions.
Short FAQ:
Q: Can...? A: No, object descriptions most likely won't be longer.
Q: What about clothing description? Is it visible when worn?
A: Yes. It's also visible like other object descriptions. When such piece of clothing is worn, then original description is overwritten. You can restore original description by setting an empty description.

Q: Can I see full list of objects which can be described?
A: Yes, it's here:
Every piece of clothing that requires needle for sewing, requires a needle to change desc.

Parrots
Domesticated parrots (macaws, rainbow lorikeets and cockatoos) have a new magic functionality.
To check it: tame, adopt a parrot, keep it in your inventory and see what happens. :D

Expected sailing system change

I've just finished a complete overhaul of the sailing system. It's going to happen in the following days (there will be another announcement before that).
The old one had many bugs and was too complicated, so it wasn't possible to commit any real changes to the sailing system.

What is going to change?
The answer is quite unexpected: almost nothing.

I think that the only visible change is the docking mechanism. Right now, when you start to dock, the ship stops and the docking progress is increased every turn, until docking is complete. It's impossible to dock to sailing vessels if you can't finish docking immediately.
In the new system it will be more intuitive: when you start docking, the ship will change direction to select the shortest path to the destination. Ship will move every hour towards the destination, until it can finally complete docking. It also makes docking to sailing ships possible, but it's not necessarily the best option.
In the old system, it was impossible to cancel docking in the last hour of the process. In the new system, the ship will be really moving in order to dock to land, so it's possible that the ship moves through the coast. Like this:
Image

The two new rules are:
- It's impossible to cancel docking when the ship is moving on land
- It's impossible to undock a smaller ship from a ship which is currently moving on land

Please prepare for these changes soon. I'll inform you in another announcement when to expect a short game lock required to introduce these changes. When they will be completed, we'll be able to continue sailing development, but I can't give any promises about the results yet.

I'm currently engaged in the development of a tutorial server for new players and non-Cantr affairs, which consumes most of my time. But stay tuned ;)

Increased length of object descriptions

Maximum object description length has been doubled and is currently set to 320 characters.
To not harm the user-interface, descriptions on inventory&objects page longer than 160 characters are partially hidden. To see the whole description you have to show it using the special button.

New clothes and dolls
We have some new stuff, including elemental clothing and dolls.
Dolls are a new subcategory of roleplaying items. You'll easily find them in the build menu.
New clothes are: windbreaker, sailcloth vest, boardshorts, cotton polo shirt, cotton tank top, hemp tank top, zippered cotton hoodie, hemp hoodie, military shirt, cotton drawstring pants, cotton cargo shorts, hemp cargo shorts, cotton cargo trousers, hemp cargo trousers. They are based on suggestion: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=25731.
They were mainly developed by SekoETC.

Tools disassembling
Now you can disassemble these tools and shields: stone hammer, iron shield, screwdriver, bone knife, crowbar, bone needle, shovel, wooden trowel, wooden shield, iron chisel, sledgehammer, file, bone fur-scraper, axe, pickaxe, cooking stone, waster, iron carving knife, chitin shield, scissors, pliers, knife.
How to do it? To disassemble a tool: first drop the the tool you want to disassemble. On the objects page, there will be an [X] to disassemble the tool just like there is for machines; click that. Then you can pick it up and work on disassembling.
For most objects, disassembly will take less than the original manufacturing time. Disassembling will give back around 75% of the resources used in its manufacturing. This can be worthwhile if you want to use the resources on something else.

Taming the rest of birds and ingest all
1. It's possible to domesticate kookaburra, quail, redwinged-blackbird, seagull, white-stork, roadrunner, robin, pelican, great spotted woodpecker, condor, buzzard, bluejay, blue-heron, bearded vulture, albatross. Many of them can be hard to tame and feed and they may be useful mainly as exotic pets.
2. It's possible to ingest everything from some portable storages e.g. plates or cups. It results in consumption of all food inside.
It's possible that you'll have to press ctrl+r on the inventory page to get access to more convenient ajax based ingest.
Image
It's also possible to ingest food directly from retrieving from storage page.

3. Now you see some of the contents of the storage when you store stuff inside of container. There are some other minor tweaks for storing interface.

Wiki account registration
Do you remember it's impossible to register accounts on wiki and they have to be created manually by a sysop? It was done because it was the only way to stop the invasion of spambots.
But it's no longer the case, because we've managed to fix it.
It's now possible to register the account using the normal way (http://wiki.cantr.net - top-right corner). The only requirement is that you have to use the same email address you use for your Cantr account.

Event groups
I've updated groups for event filtering. It's now possible to filter weather (group weather). Saddling/unsaddling and other new events for riding a horse are in group Domestication.
Vehicle disassembling, building destruction etc. are in group Destruction. Parroting is in group Talking.

New accessories
It's now possible to manufacture new accessories: pearl belt, gold belt, silver belt, wood bead bracelet, silver and glass bead bracelet, silver turquoise anklet, emerald and diamonds anklet, gold panel necklace.
They were implemented by SekoETC.

Object descriptions
It's now possible to describe all musical instruments. They are quite special, because tool used to change description is not always the same as used in the manufacturing process.
The following use require a carving knife:
tambourine, zither, guitar, violin, lute, cello, mandolin, oboe

The following use a knife:
small drum, ocarina, accordion, kobza, balalaika, lyre, banjo, bagpipes, triangle, harp, clarinet

Hammer is used for triangle and electic guitar.
It's also possible to use a label to describe a sextant.

It was implemented by Wiro*.

New food recipes based on animal products and changes to some older recipes will be put on hold until GAB has time to more thoroughly discuss the principles and goals behind these implementations, because they may have a more radical impact in the game than intended.

Happy New Year!
