Question..

Postby N-Aldwitch » Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:49 am

I know this could be in General Support but it's actually more suited here, for discussion..

Roughly how long does it take one to get from continent to continent?

I've got a character who's successfully on his way.. but he's bored brainless, I go for 2 or 3 week intervals without checking on him. :P

So yeah, he's going downwards (which is east) and has been doing so for ages. Well, 7+ years, but that's a long time for me.. and him.
Especially considering his friend just died. Well, died about 4 years ago. But hey!

I know there are bunches of you out there who will rejoice in being able to openly declare the response to this question...

All together now...

1... 2... 3.. 4... FIND OUT INGAME!!! ...lol

I doubt anyone can calculate the average distance, for some courses you might go on a lifetime without seeing land. And on some regions you run into new islands overnight. Most apparently you're not on one of those regions.

Gah!

lol

My real question is, then,

Is it possible that I could go east from one side of my continent, pass other continents by only days, then arrive on the western side of my continent in a hundred years time??

So, rephrased, are there any direct lines at all from the east of a continent to the west of it?

I believe Jos has said in the past that the game world is either a cylinder (east and west edges connect, but not the top, similar to Civilisation maps) or a torus (top and bottom connect as well as east and west)

So, if you go in one direction and never hit another continent, I think it's highly likely you will return to your own continent some day, whether you have enough food to survive is another matter.

It's been mentioned that it's a torus...

When sailing to discover land you should check as often as you can, at least everyday. It's possible that you sailed within sight of land but didn't run into it. Get up in that crows nest and keep a look out!

I have a question for N, what the hell have you been doing?

There hasnt been anything interesting since Felin, pick up the pace!
Person: Akamada doesnt control the animals.
You see a wild boar attack Person.
Person: I still dont believe you.

It can't be a torus. It exists only in two dimensions.

Take a sheet of paper and try to make a torus...

Just take a cylinder and bend it.

Hehe I'm sorry, there's one in the works but he's having delays..

The other one ran for refuge to the north, now is fleeing for refuge in the south. It's difficult to remake a Felin! :P

Just take a cylinder and bend it.
Sure. Easy. A nice, smooth torus, no folds or overlapping sections.

Go ahead and try it, before you open your trap. Punk.
