Webzine (1)

Postby Kendo » Mon May 26, 2014 8:07 pm

Saludos!

ENGLISH
Hello everyone!
We're going to launch the webzine once again and as you know we need the help of everyone. The first thing that we need to do is incorporate the design and this is where you can contribute.
We need a website header. The characteristics should be:

1260 pixels wide and 240 pixels high.

Keep in mind that the webzine is for everyone, so ideally it should stay in harmony as much as possible with the design of Cantr II and if there are words remember that it will be translated into other languages.

What will we do? Well, you can start posting here your designs, and through a vote, whichever wins will be the one put on the webzine. So get to it, start designing and getting votes.

Good luck!

PL
Cześć wszystkim!
Zamierzamy postawić ponownie webzine i jak wiecie, potrzebujemy każdej pomocy. Pierwszą rzeczą jakiej potrzebujemy jest wygląd i to jest dla was okazja by dodać coś od siebie.
Potrzebujemy nagłówka. Powinien on mieć wymiary:

1260 pikseli szerokości i 240 pikseli wysokości.

Powodzenia!

GERMAN
Hallo zusammen.

Was müsst ihr also machen? Postet einfach eure Designs. Also fangt an, entwerft und sammelt Stimmen.

Viel Spaß!

I have a question about the different languages. Do you mean that all of the languages will be crammed into the one header, or do you mean that several different versions will be made for each language?

It's a bit strange to have a multilingual banner for an English webzine. It would only be deceiving to translate.

There's some banners here that could be used: http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Promote_Cantr though they are a bit old fashioned. I'd prefer a simple "Cantr II webzine" without images, since words are a thousand pictures in Cantr.

Oh, another question! What color will the actual page be? If you can give me a hexadecimal figure, that would be great. :)

Something I whipped up really quickly.
It's simple.
It's good for all languages (except maybe the ones where "Webzine" needs to be put into a different alphabet like Cyrillic or whatever).
I can change the color on it really easily if need be.
There's even room for a subtitle.

The only thing I don't like about it is the overall background and how the smiley fits in with it. I thought it was clever by putting the pen-tip at the point where the spiral thing meets and closes, but I didn't forsee the issue it created with the smiley and its background gradient. But I can fix that later.

The same banner for all the webzine. Then, the idea is: The webzine will be multilingual, i mean, each group of players can write in their own language, and, if someone got time to translate, that's ok, can translate, but, it's not about post it and translate, it's a tool for everyone's share, and every player can express at the way most confortable for them. :D
That's for why we need a banner the most neutral possible.
Because we don't wanna make five versions, just one, for all of you.

I'd say remove the smiley altogether. I like the hand and I think it would look great like that.

I can resize the smiley or I can remove it altogether and use the extra space to fade out the whole header in a gradient.

Edit:
Image

I also made one without the smiley and the gradient, but I don't like it nearly as well. Part of it is that the transparency-gradient tool on Paint.NET isn't working for me so I had to use a motion blur instead, and it looks kind of funny. :\ Oh well.

I like the smiley personally. I guess it does look a little better having it be on just the dark side of the green though.

Why have a fixed width banner? I don't want that on my phone so I would have to scroll in every possible direction to read a text on the zine.

I would ask if we really need a graphic banner? Game isn't anyway about graphic, and I would suggest going rather towards simplicity. All good looking blogs I remember, in place of banner puts mainly simple text with the name. Normal html text, not graphics. In worst case they put small logo (maybe 100x100px) next to text.

Simplicity looks good and is often easier then complexity.

You know about responsive design?

We need a header. And for that, we need an img...
